Confirmation is the completion of baptism, the giving of the full power of a Christian. "Confirmation" means a strengthening - this sacrament strengthens and increases what we receive at baptism, particularly the power of bearing witness to Christ. To emphasize this, the ceremony of confirmation includes a renewal of our baptismal promises. We now become full-fledged members of the Church, lay apostles in the fullest sense.
In our diocese, Confirmation typically takes place in the 8th grade. Confirmation preparation begins in 7th grade using the Chosen Program for Confirmation. Parish school children receive formation in school. Public school and homeschool children receive formation on Sunday mornings from 9:40 AM - 10:45 AM. Forms provided in the margin to the left provide additional detail on the Confirmation process and requirements.
If your child needs to receive this sacrament, please contact Kimberly Zubillaga at kzubillaga@qhrwea.org.
Adults in need of Confirmation, if not part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) process can attend a 5-6 week class in the Spring that culminates at Pentecost with Confirmation with the Archbishop. Contact the pastor at least three months before Pentecost. Learn more about the RCIA process here.
