On behalf of the all the staff and parishioners of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Parish and School I wish to extend a warm welcome. I am so happy that you have decided to register here at our parish. This Catholic community was established 1858, with the first families meeting in homes for prayer and Mass. The construction of the first church building began in 1869 and was surrounded by lands once occupied by members of the Wea Tribe of Native Americans, thus giving our community its name. Our existing church was built in 1906.
This is a wonderful parish with a healthy mix of long-time farming families, southern Johnson County suburban families and families desiring to live in a more rural setting. The parish has a long history of being a spiritual, educational and social center for the surrounding community. We take seriously Jesus’ commission to “go and make disciples” and to teach all that he commanded (cf Mt 28:19).
I pray that you will find our parish to be a warm spiritual home and that you will want to actively participate in the various spiritual, educational and service opportunities that are offered here. Our adoration chapel has offered Eucharistic adoration 24 hours a day since 1997. Our parish education and formation center provides a quality Catholic education for elementary and middle school students. In 2019 our school was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award. This is the highest honor of recognition a public or private school can receive from the Department of Education. Receiving this award as a private school is even that much more difficult than a public school. Unlike our public peers, our school needed to score in the top 15% of all schools nationally on our national testing, and in the top 5% of all schools across the state of Kansas. This award is only given to no more than 50 private schools total, out of the numerous schools who apply each year. I’m proud to say, we not only met the high standards, but we beat them. We averaged scores in the top 3% of our state, as well as in all top percentiles nationally. We also were required to submit documentation detailing the operations of our school and our overall school community. Our school is proud of our sustained achievements and we will continue to embrace our mission of upholding a tradition of faith development, educational excellence and service to God and community. We truly believe that each child is a masterpiece of God, created with precision, for a specific purpose.
Our school facility also offers space for religious formation of Catholic students who attend public schools and for adult members of the parish community. The Parish also operates Angel House Day Care for children 6 months through 3 years of age.
The weekly celebration of Mass is at the heart of parish life. In the Mass we encounter, in a unique way, the crucified and risen Lord of Life; we are nourished and strengthened by God’s word and by the grace of the sacraments. Every Mass sends us forth to make God’s love tangible in our world by living as missionary disciples and joyfully proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ with our lives.
I look forward to getting to know you better. Feel free to call upon me anytime just to visit or attend to any need you might have. I can be reached through the parish office at 913-533-2464. You will also be contacted soon by a member of our Welcome Ministry to offer assistance in getting familiar with our parish. Again, let me welcome you to our parish. I am so happy that you are here.
Sincerely yours in Christ Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life.
